In October 2013, professors Jeanne Baxtresser and Alberto Almarza will welcome aspiring young flutists, teachers and parents to Carnegie Mellon University for the first Flute Forum weekend, Achieving Your Personal Best in School Auditions: Preparation, Organization and Inspiration - a weekend workshop focusing on the process of auditioning for college music programs.  

Created by Baxtresser and Almarza, this weekend will be the first in a series of workshops focused on serving the varied needs of flute students, teachers and professionals.  With the addition of the Flute Forum, Carnegie Mellon School of Music will become a destination for the entire flute community.

Achieving Your Personal Best in School Auditions: Preparation, Organization and Inspiration is a  multifaceted weekend class where flutists will receive valuable insight through lectures and master classes to ready them for the challenging process of applying to undergraduate and graduate music programs.  Faculty lectures will cover the many aspects of the audition process, including the application procedure, choosing repertoire, making a CD/DVD, audition presentation, effective practice and learning to enjoy the entire process. Daily master classes will in turn be dedicated to the musical and technical aspects of the audition.

The Flute Forum is also designed to provide valuable resources and insight to flute teachers as they train their students to prepare and practice successfully. And, as auditioning for music schools is ideally a collaborative family experience, parents are encouraged to attend, without a fee.

Students leaving the class will be inspired, energized and ready to enter the audition with confidence and enthusiasm!
