Collaborative Piano Audition Requirements

The Collaborative Piano curriculum gives specialized training to pianists pursuing a career working with vocalists and instrumentalists. This curriculum provides the necessary skills and artistry required for an increasingly growing field. Collaborative Piano auditions are based on the track/concentration to which you are applying: instrumental, vocal, or dual.

Pre-screening is not required at this time. 

Instrumental Track Audition Repertoire:

Please prepare the following repertoire:
  1. César Franck:
    Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major
    Allegretto ben moderato
    Allegro
  2. Ludwig van Beethoven:
    Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 7 in C Minor, Op. 30, No. 2 (Allegro con Brio) or
    Sonata for Piano and Cello No. 3 in A Major, Op. 69 (Allegro ma non tanto)
  3. Johannes Brahms: 
    Meine Liebe ist grün (b minor)
  4. Gabriel Fauré: 
    Toujours (e minor) from Poème d’un Jour

You will be asked to sightread a short piece of music.

Vocal Track Audition Repertoire:

Please prepare the following repertoire: 
  1. Choose ONE movement from one of the instrumental pieces below.
    1. César Franck: 
      Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major
      Allegretto ben moderato
      Allegro
    2. Ludwig van Beethoven:
      Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 7 in C Minor, Op. 30, No. 2 (Allegro con Brio) or
      Sonata for Piano and Cello No. 3 in A Major, Op. 69 (Allegro ma non tanto) 
  2. All of the following. Please be prepared to sing and play these selections: 
    1. Johannes Brahms:
      Meine Liebe ist grün (b minor)
    2. Gabriel Fauré: 
      Toujours (e minor) from Poème d’un Jour
    3. Samuel Barber:
      St. Ita’s Vision from Hermit Songs
    4. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: 
      Giunse alfin il momento…Deh vieni, non tardar from Le Nozze di Figaro

You will be asked to sightread a short piece of music.

Dual Track Audition Repertoire:

  1. César Franck: 
    Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major
    1st movement, Allegretto ben moderato
  2. Ludwig van Beethoven: CHOOSE BETWEEN 
    Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 7 in C Minor, Op. 30, No. 2 (Allegro con Brio) or
    Sonata for Piano and Cello No. 3 in A Major, Op. 69 (Allegro ma non tanto)
  3. Choose three of the following. Please be prepared to sing and play one of these selections:
    1. Johannes Brahms, Meine Liebe ist grün (b minor), 
    2. Gabriel Fauré: Toujours (e minor) from Poème d’un Jour, 
    3. Samuel Barber: St. Ita's Vision from Hermit Song, 
    4. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Guinse alfin il momento...Deh vieni, non tadar from Le Nozze di Figaro

The AMSC in Collaborative Piano is a one-year program which gives students the opportunity to customize their studies under the guidance of their instructor. The program is available in three tracks: Dual Track (Instrumental and Vocal), Instrumental Track or Vocal Track. The audition requirements are the same as the graduate program requirements.
