Bio

Ross Garin has been on the staff of the Carnegie Mellon University School of Music since 2001 and is the Associate Head of the School of Music. He also served as Acting Executive Director of the School of Music for the 2024-2025 academic year.  He graduated with BFA and MM degrees in Trombone Performance from Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied with Peter Sullivan and the late Byron McCulloh, both principal players with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Ross has performed with the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, River City Brass Band, Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, Bach Choir of Pittsburgh, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, the Carnegie Brass, and the Westmoreland, Johnstown, and McKeesport Symphonies, among many others. He has also played with Frankie Valli, the Temptations, Four Tops, Four Coins, the Gene Krupa Orchestra, the Guy Lombardo Orchestra, the O’Jays, Pat Boone, Jack Jones, and appeared (very briefly) in an episode of Mindhunter on Netflix.
