Bio
Navilla Burns is a musician and arts administration professional with over a decade of experience. As Recruitment & Academic Coordinator, she supports prospective and current students within the School of Music. She represents the SoM at college fairs and other recruitment events, coordinates on-campus and virtual information sessions, and manages audition days. In addition, Navilla supports the academic efforts of our student body from onboarding to graduation. She assists new student onboarding and minor application processing, coordinates jury scheduling, and supports student graduation ceremonies.
Navilla earned her Bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education from Florida State University and completed her Master’s in Instrumental Performance (Euphonium) at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Music. Using an intersectional approach, Navilla is deeply committed to providing tangible resources to the next generation of music professionals.
She previously worked in admissions at the College of Music at Florida State University and Carnegie Mellon University School of Music as a student employee. She also worked at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences as senior staff. As a CMU alumna, Navilla is very excited to return to the School of Music once again and support our current student body.
In addition to her work at CMU Navilla enjoys hiking, taking care of her many plants, watching horror films, and supporting Pittsburgh’s local music and art communities. She also serves as Co-founder and Director of Operations of the Chromatic Brass Collective: a music nonprofit dedicated to celebrating and elevating the visibility of racially and ethnically underrepresented women and gender non-conforming individuals in the brass community through performance, education, and outreach.
