The Carnegie Mellon University School of Music is pleased to announce that Callum Smart has been appointed as Assistant Professor of Violin. A violinist with widespread critical acclaim, Smart has an international reputation as both performer and pedagogue with a flair for innovation.

Smart has performed concerti with major orchestras around the world, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and European Union Chamber Orchestra. He has released three recital albums and recently completed a multi-week tour of China and Hong Kong.

He is currently Professor of Violin at the Royal Northern College of Music, with faculty positions at Orford Musique, the Benedetti Foundation, and Music Masters. He has mentored top violin students from around the globe and is in demand as a guest at universities including the Royal College of Music and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

With a significant online following, Smart has made a priority of expanding the reach of violin education through his tutorials on Instagram, and he also recently launched Caidence — a revolutionary AI practice companion that supports violinists in their musical journeys.

Smart earned Artist Diplomas from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, studying with Mauricio Fuks, and from the Royal Northern College of Music, where he studied with Ana Chumachenco and Noah Bendix-Balgley.

He will join the faculty at CMU for the Fall 2025 semester.
