Scott Bell and Julia Harguindey Join the School of Music Faculty
Scott Bell, who played with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for 28 years, and Julia Harguindey, the newly appointed principal bassoon of the PSO, will join the faculty of the Carnegie Mellon University School of Music this fall. Both will teach studio as primary instructors of instrumental performance majors, with Bell as Artist Lecturer in Oboe, and Harguindey as Artist Lecturer in Bassoon.
Bell studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and was a member of the New Orleans Symphony, the Hartford Symphony and the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra before joining the PSO. He has been a faculty member at Northern Illinois University, Tulane University, Duquesne University, and most recently as the first oboe faculty at the Juilliard School’s campus in Tianjin, China.
Harguindey, who was born in Argentina, will begin serving as principal bassoon of the PSO in Fall 2025. Before joining the PSO she was principal bassoon at the Nashville Symphony and the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. Harguindey studied at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal and at the Curtis Institute of Music, and she will also hold a faculty position at Curtis in 2025.
