SHIP Fees & Student Accounts 

  • By default, an individual medical SHIP premium fee is posted to your student account at the start of your open enrollment period. The premium fee will be reversed for students who apply for and receive an approved waiver. 
  • The premium fee is a placeholder charge only and does not indicate a SHIP enrollment.
  • Questions about charges in your student account, invoices or payments should be directed to Student Financial Services.

Monthly Payment Option

Nelnet Campus Commerce allows you to pay your insurance premium in nine monthly payments (September through May) during fall enrollment only. If you already use Nelnet to pay your tuition and fees, you can add your health insurance premiums to that plan.

Medical Billing

If you are enrolled in the SHIP, and you see a provider at UHS, most services should be covered and claims are sent directly to Highmark. You can find a list of services and fees on the UHS website.

If you have outside insurance, and you see a provider at UHS, you will need to submit your bill to your insurance company for reimbursement. To do so, you will need a copy of your billing statement, and call the member services phone number on the back of your insurance card for any questions on how to submit your claim.

If you see a provider, need medical or lab testing, or have a hospital visit outside of UHS, you may receive a bill. It is helpful to register with Highmark, where you can track your medical claims and explore your Explanation of Benefits.

How to Submit a Claim to the SHIP for Reimbursement

Claim forms can be found in the Highmark forms library. Select the Tips icon for instructions on how to file each claim. Once filed, you can track your claims on your Highmark portal:

  1. Medical Claims: Use the Member Submitted Health Insurance Claim Form.
  2. Dental Claims: Use the Member Dental Claim Form.
  3. Vision Claims: Use the Direct Reimbursement Claim Form.
  4. Prescription Claims: Use the Prescription Drug Reimbursement Form or Specialty Drugs Form.
