UHS continues to offer services for those affected by COVID19.
It you tested positive for COVID19 and need advice, please call our nurse triage line 412-268-2157, option 2. CMU and the CDC provides the following reccomendations for isolation:
- If you test positive for COVID-19, stay home for at least 5 full days and isolate from others in your home TO THE EXTENT POSSIBLE. You may not attend classes or other in-person gatherings of any kind. Your faculty will be ready to assist you in making academic plans during your isolation, as will your academic advisor, associate dean and housefellow if you live in the residence halls. Students who live off campus may also request assistance from Student Support Resources.
- You should wear a high-quality mask for an additional 5 days and not eat in public venues.
- Students living in on-campus housing should consult this resource for guidance on how to isolate in a residence hall or apartment.
- Do not go places where you are unable to wear a mask. For travel guidance, see CDC’s Travel webpage.
- Do not travel.
- Stay home and separate from others as much as possible.
- Use a separate bathroom, if possible.
- Take steps to improve ventilation at home, if possible.
- Don’t share personal household items, like cups, towels, and utensils

If you have been exposed to COVID-19, the CDC provides the following reccomendations:
- Wear a mask as soon a you find out you were exposed
- Do not go places where you are unable to wear a mask. For travel guidance, see CDC’s Travel webpage.
- If you develop symptoms, isolate immediately and get tested.
- If you do not develop symptoms, test after 5 full days after your last exposure.
- Most insurance companies no longer cover COVID-19 testing for people who were exposed and do not have symptoms. UHS reccomends at home rapid antigen tests in these cases.
- If you test negative, continue to wear a mask through day 10.
Where to get tested
- Best tests are PCR tests
- UHS 2 hour test – costs $105 (symptoms only) Fully covered for students enrolled in CMU SHIP. Students on outside plans can submit to their insurance for reimbursement. Call for appointment.
- UHS 1-3 day test – Sent to Quest and billed to your insurance. Call for an appointment.
- UPMC Urgent Care 2 hour test and billed to your insurance. Walk in or schedule on line
- MedExpress 2-3 day test – Sent to LabCorp and billed to your insurance. Walk in.
- Rapid antigen tests
- Request rapid antigen tests through HealthConnect for free until further notice. Limit 1 per student, per week.
- Purchase rapid antigen home tests at your local pharmacy (most pharmacies are only offering rapid antigen testing in their facilities)
- MedExpress/CVS – some will bill your insurance, some won’t. Check their websites for details
