Biological Sciences Department
The Department of Biological Sciences offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees focused on molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, developmental biology and computational and quantitative life sciences. At the intersection of technology and scientific thinking, students explore how living systems function, adapt and evolve — applying core principles to areas like synthetic biology, neurotechnology and systems biology.
Chemistry Department
The Department of Chemistry fosters an environment of high-impact research on the cutting edge of technological advancement. Highly supportive undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs span areas of expertise like green chemistry, biochemistry, energy storage, catalysts, nanoscience, machine learning and computational chemistry.
Mathematical Sciences Department
The highly ranked Department of Mathematical Sciences at MCS collaborates across disciplines to impact the body of mathematical knowledge in research and application in undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs. Areas of expertise include algebra and number theory, combinatorics, geometry, logic, mathematical finance, numerical analysis, probability, pure and applied analysis and topology, among others.
Physics Department
The Department of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University offers undergraduate through doctoral programs with research spanning subatomic physics, quantum electronics, astronomy, cosmology and biological physics. Students and faculty contribute to major projects like CMS at CERN, KATRIN and JLab, working closely across subfields and leading large international collaborations.
