OIE Services & Coronavirus-Related FAQs

Effectively immediately, Office of International Education (OIE) staff are working remotely. OIE will continue to process requests received, although the ability to provide physical documents will be delayed beyond our normal processing times. Students and scholars who decide to depart the U.S. do not need any signature or visa document to depart, but we encourage all travelers to consult with their OIE or Study Abroad advisor to discuss their specific situation.

The Office of International Education (OIE) understands that this is an uncertain time for many of Carnegie Mellon's students, parents and scholars. The COVID-19 situation is constantly evolving. We ask that you visit CMU’s Coronavirus website to stay up-to-date on the latest information.

Lists of frequently asked questions to immediately address many of your concerns have been posted to our websites, and we are adding to the lists as more questions come in. View international student FAQs at www.cmu.edu/oie/faq/coronavirus.html.

If an answer to your question is not provided in the FAQs, send email to oie@andrew.cmu.edu and we will respond as quickly as possible, as we understand that many questions are time sensitive.

To carry out the recommended social distancing, we are limiting meetings and appointments to phone or zoom only until further notice. If you need to schedule an appointment with your OIE advisor, call our front desk at 412-268-5231.

While we have canceled the weekly OIE Express signature hour for international students and scholars, we are still currently accepting travel signature requests at our front desk (Cyert Hall, First Floor Atrium). A travel signature is not needed to depart the U.S. International students who are thinking about traveling should contact their OIE advisor.

We understand that many in our community are feeling concerned and isolated, and so we encourage you to reach out to Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS) for assistance. CaPS counselors are available at any time, day or night, at 412-268-2922.
