Settling In Guide
Welcome to the United States, Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University! The Office of International Education is excited to welcome you to the university, and we hope to get to know you better during your time here.
This Settling in Guide is meant to be your first resource once you arrive in the U.S. and was developed to help our various international populations adjust to the U.S. and get to know the university. If you have not yet arrived in the U.S., you may want to reference our Pre-Arrival resources.

International Student Orientation & Immigration Registration
All new students are required to complete an Mandatory International Orientation and Immigration Registration upon arrival to Carnegie Mellon University. Pittsburgh students are required to attend OIE'sMandatory International Orientation and Immigration Registration. In addition to regularly reviewing the OIE website, we encourage you to check your Andrew email account frequently, as this is how OIE will contact you with important orientation information and updates. If you are not studying at the Pittsburgh campus, OIE will send you information on how to fulfill the mandatory orientation requirement remotely.
Required Immunizations
Carnegie Mellon considers proper immunization of all students to be extremely important, particularly for those students who will live in on-campus housing. OIE strongly recommends that you take care of all required immunizations before the Aug. 1 submission deadline. You may submit your immunization records using the HealthConnect application. Failure to comply with immunizations and vaccine requirements can have serious consequences, such as the inability to live on-campus and/or to register for classes.
