Getting To Campus
Carnegie Mellon is located in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh is home to approximately 300,000 people and roughly 14,000 Carnegie Mellon Students. There are several ways to get to campus, we recommend planning your travel to campus in advance.
Travel by Air
CMU is approximately 20 miles from the Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), with both domestic and international flights. Once you arrive at Pittsburgh International Airport, you will need to arrange additional transportation to campus.
Tip: Pittsburgh is a city with many bridges, tunnels and construction all of which may slow travel to and from the airport. Plan your travel to campus accordingly!
Travel by Bus
There is a public bus service via Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT), Bus 28X Airport Flyer, directly from the airport to campus. The bus departs from the lower level of the airport. The final stop the bus makes is in front of Morewood Gardens Residence Hall on the CMU campus. You must have exact change when boarding the bus (in small bills and/or coins). The trip takes approximately 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the time of day. Please visit the PRT website for more information.
You can also use a shuttle service like SuperShuttle to travel from the airport to campus. The cost of a one-way trip to campus will vary.
If you are traveling to Pittsburgh on a commercial bus, such as Greyhound or Megabus, you will need to arrange transportation from your drop-off location to campus.
Travel by Car
Uber, Lyft and taxi services are popular and easy to use in Pittsburgh. Be sure to request the appropriate vehicle for your party's size and individual needs.
Taxi services from the airport will cost about $50 to Oakland. The taxi should be metered, and a tip of 10-15% of the cost on the meter is normally expected. Uber and Lyft rideshares can be requested online or through their mobile app. The price will vary depending on the time of day and drop-off location.
Tip: The most centrally located campus pick-up/drop-off spaces are in front of the Cohon University Center or Hamburg Hall, both on Forbes Avenue.
