New CDC Testing Travel Requirements for Entry to U.S.

On January 12, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a new policy for all international travelers entering the U.S. Effective January 26, all air passengers will have to show proof of a negative virus test before their flight to the U.S. departs. Travelers will be required to get tested with a viral test (NAAT or antigen test) no more than 3 days prior to their flight to the U.S. and will need to present documentation of a negative test to their airline before boarding.

The CDC has compiled a helpful list of Frequently Asked Questions related to this new policy that we encourage you to read if you plan to travel to the U.S. for the upcoming spring semester. Additionally, we strongly encourage those with travel plans to regularly check for any additional travel updates with their airline(s) leading up to their date of departure. Students and scholars should also familiarize themselves with CMU’s quarantine guidelines before their arrival.
