Fall Break

Take a break! We know you've all been working hard this semester, so take some time to refresh and recharge. There will be no classes from Oct. 16-20, but OIE will remain open and here to help! This year, kick off fall break with Family Weekend and enjoy the events happening on campus.

Noche Latina

On Friday, Oct. 13, from 8 to 11 p.m., wrap up Latine Hispanic Heritage Month with Noche Latina! Enjoy live music featuring Gavas Beat, Latino food, and other activities hosted by a variety of Latino student organizations. Please register in advance for what is sure to be a fun-filled night.

A Doll's House

From Oct. 11 to 14, check out the School of Drama's A Doll's House production by Henrik Ibsen and adapted by Jasmine Roth. In the play, it is Christmas Eve 2023, Christmas Eve 2024, Christmas Eve 2025, and all the other picture-perfect Christmas Eves that Nora will live in her lifetime unless something happens to change her world irrevocably. And something does. The arrival of an old friend catalyzes a chain reaction of events that reveal the secrets that fester under the facade of the Helmer family home. Learn more about the play and get tickets in advance.

Pittsburgh Coffee Week

Need a midsemester pick-me-up? From Oct. 15 to 21, enjoy Pittsburgh Coffee Week! All around the city, unique coffee events will be taking place. Learn about the origins of espresso, or check out a latte throwdown where participants compete to see who makes the best latte. Each event is a unique opportunity to enjoy the Pittsburgh coffee scene, and there's something for everyone! Learn more about this week of events.

Asian Lantern Festival

It's back! The popular Asain Lantern Festival at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium runs through Oct. 29 with the World of Wonders show. This year's festival honors the zoo's 125th anniversary with a global passport. Get ready for an adventure over the mountains, through the jungle, and under the sea to learn about decades of conservation through a dazzling display of light and color. Please purchase tickets in advance.

Fall Flower Show

Beginning Oct. 7, check out the Phipps Conservatory's Fall Flower Show: Hometown Harvest. This year's display pays tribute to the bounty of the harvest season and the plants and animals that make it possible through fun and festive displays surrounded by marvelous chrysanthemums in an exciting variety of sizes, shapes and colors. Explore fall moments like visiting the pumpkin patch, harvesting grapes, seeing bees making honey, taking a peaceful walk along a pond and so much more. The Fall Flower Show will captivate visitors of all ages, allowing you to reminisce about your favorite fall memories while creating new ones at Phipps. Building a Bridge Through Jazz with Eastern Boundary Quartet

As the City of Bridges, Pittsburghers understand the importance of building cultural bridges. On Monday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m., check out this quartet's unique mixture of avant-garde jazz and ethno-music from Hungary. They believe their music is a cultural bridge between the U.S. and Eastern Europe. This bridge is made of talent, respect, brotherhood and friendship, built by the common language of jazz and improvised music. Learn more about this event.

21+ Night: Mystery at the Museum

What's more spooky than Friday the 13th? How about a mystery at the museum on Friday the 13th! On Friday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 10 p.m., experience a party atmosphere on all four floors of the Science Center after hours. It's a classic whodunnit with a Science Center twist. Gather evidence, question suspects, and solve the mystery of the missing Martian diamond. Trench coat and magnifying glass not required. With no kids around, expect deeper science content, riskier experiments, and party games with your friends. It's the perfect adults-only night out in Pittsburgh! Guests must be over 21, and a valid government ID is required for entry. Learn more about this event.
