Academic Operations for NFL Draft Week

Home / Leadership / The Provost / Campus Communications / Academic Operations For NFL Draft Week

April 20, 2026

Dear Pittsburgh Faculty and Course Instructors:

As President Jahanian shared in his recent message regarding the 2026 NFL Draft, this is a historic moment to showcase our city’s innovation on a global stage. While our community celebrates this spotlight, I am writing to reiterate that Carnegie Mellon will maintain our normal posture for course instruction throughout the event, including April 23 and 24.

To maintain our academic momentum during this high-profile week, we will continue our learning on campus. Most of our students reside on or near campus and will not be impacted by regional disruptions. This is especially important as we near the end of the academic year.

I recognize that the event may create personal travel challenges for those commuting from other areas. As President Jahanian shared, we encourage flexibility where needed. You can find more detailed information on transportation and maps on the official Pittsburgh Transportation Guide and the PRT NFL Draft page so that you can make plans that work best for you.

I am grateful for your steadfast dedication to our students. If you feel it is truly unfeasible to reach campus to conduct your class, please contact your dean or department head to discuss your specific situation.

Sincerely,

James H. Garrett Jr.
Provost and Chief Academic Officer
