MLK Day Closure

We want to remind everyone that the university will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 15. You can also learn about the history of MLK Day and why it’s called “a day on, not a day off.” Plus, check out some of the events happening across campus all month long in honor of Dr. King. Be sure to check out this year's Keynote Lecture featuring Byron Pitts!

Winter Welcome

The Winter Welcome is back! Join SLICE for an exciting slate of Winter Welcome events. From Jan. 16 until Jan. 27, join the Athletics department for a Healthy Campus Kick Off, or sign up for personal training. Enjoy s’mores and cocoa with SLICE, warm up with the soup crawl, or join the I Love the 80’s To Death: A Murder Mystery Dinner. The Winter Welcome will help make you feel right at home on campus. Arts Pass

Want to checkout some great museums? Through the sponsored Arts Pass Program, CMU students may use their ID Card to gain free admission to a number of museums and other venues in the Pittsburgh area. Students are encouraged to experience these popular Pittsburgh attractions and find out what makes Pittsburgh such a unique place. Want to take advantage of this program? A Carnegie Mellon student ID Card must be presented for admittance! Learn more about Arts Pass.

The Festival of Pongal

Let's celebrate! On Saturday, Jan. 13, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., check out a Pongal celebration with fun and interactive story-telling and multi-cultural activities celebrating the Tamil Heritage Month and the Tamil Harvest & Thanksgiving Festival of Pongal (also celebrated as Sankaranti, Lohri, and Bihu in different parts of India). Pongal is a time for families, friends, and communities to come together, expressing gratitude for nature, agriculture, and the bountiful harvest and sharing in special traditional foods, art, rituals, and games embracing the indigenous Tamil practices. This Pongal celebration will feature a talk about this vibrant tradition, delicious examples of customary foods, a live dance performance by the Nandanik Dance Troupe, a visit from Persis Naumann, founder of Kelir Books, and an opportunity to create beautiful Rangoli designs on canvas with Priya Arts. Winterfest

From Jan. 13-14, check out Winterfest! The wonder of winter comes to life at Winterfest, The Frick Pittsburgh's annual celebration of this snowy season. Experience the magic of a new year with festive offerings for Frick fans of all ages, including a chance to explore Clayton, the Frick family mansion, cozy treats and warm beverages from The Café at the Frick, plus so much more! Learn more about this event.
