Carnival

Ready player one! Join your fellow Tartans April 11-14 as we celebrate over 100 years of fun, laughter, booth, buggy, and being a Tartan! Carnegie Mellon's Spring Carnival is three days of amusement park rides, adventures in booths, unhealthy snacks, and buggy races. Get ready to step into a virtual world with this year’s theme: Arcade! From retro arcade games to modern classics, nothing says fun like relaxing and playing games with friends. This year's theme will merge CMU's beloved Spring Carnival tradition with our favorite virtual experiences, crafting a creative event like no other. Let the games begin at Spring Carnival 2024! Check out the schedule of events.

Dumpling Making Event

The ultimate comfort food! On Tuesday, April 16, with sessions at 5:30 p.m., 6:15 p.m., and 7 p.m., join Chartwells and Dining Services for their second annual Dumpling Making Teaching Kitchen. This year’s event will be led by local Chef Eric White, owner of Pgh Dumplingz. At this hands-on event, you will learn how to fold and cook pork/shrimp and veggie Chinese dumplings, featuring recipes from a CMU alum. You will leave with freshly prepared dumplings (made by you!), recipes, and a goodie bag. This event is open to all members of the CMU community. Space is limited, and registration is required. Learn more about this event.

Multicultural Community Potluck

On Tuesday, April 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., come together with your fellow Tartans for a multicultural community potluck. Food is culture. It is healing, grounding, delicious, and fun to share! The goal is for folks to get a taste of each dish, not a full meal. If you want to bring a dish to share, please use the form to submit a recipe that means something to you. Whether it’s a staple at your family gatherings, the first thing you learned to make, or a dish from home that you really miss. If you're interested in joining but don't want to commit to bringing a dish, you’re more than welcome! Sign up to bring a dish to share. Learn more about about this event.

Mock Interviews with SpeakSharp.io

Have you ever wanted real-time feedback on your interview style? On April 13, from 12 to 5 p.m., participate in a mock interview session with Tartan-created AI! In conjunction with Project Olympus and the Swartz Center, a team of international students developed an AI-powered tool that gives real-time, personalized feedback during mock interviews for non-native English speakers. Sign up for a time slot, and get feedback on your interview as well as help your fellow Tartans with their research!

Have you ever wondered what a dinosaur really sounded like? Did it have feathers or scales? On April 18, from 6 to 7 p.m., learn how scientists go beyond the bones to bring dinosaurs to life. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s Dr. Clarke will explain some of the new cutting-edge toolkits she uses to study what dinosaurs might have sounded or looked like when they roamed the Earth. Learn more about this event.

Khuraki

From April 12 to 14, experience the flavors, music, and culture of Afghanistan as you follow a group of Afghan women from their lives during Taliban rule to a new beginning in Pittsburgh. This immersive cultural experience includes live Afghan and classical music and stories illuminating Afghan traditions of Ramadan, birth, and death, as told by Pittsburgh’s female Afghan immigrants. Khuraki—meaning “eat” or “meal” in the Afghan language Dari– is an opportunity to learn what Afghan refugees wish Americans knew about their country and culture. You'll discover how the creation of this unique theater work led to the catering business, Zafaron, begun by the women whose stories you’ll hear. Enjoy a delicious, fresh-cooked Afghan meal prepared by the women themselves. Learn more about this event.
