Spring Carnival is back! These three days are some of the best all year, and we hope you've enjoyed being together in person for everything from Booth to Buggy. It's a big week across campus and even the city, with the spring musical beginning and the Pirate Opening Day game. We hope you enjoy this issue of the OIE "Friday Greetings" email.

Spring Carnival

Spring Carnival is in full swing! This time-honored tradition has been one of CMU's most anticipated annual events for more than 100 years. Experience everything from Booth to Buggy races from now until Saturday, culminating in Sweepstakes finals. Both virtual and in-person events will be held this year. Check out the schedule!

Holi 2022

Bring some color and joy to your week! On April 10, from 1:30 p.m., at The Mall outside Hamerschlag Hall, join CMU Om for Holi 2022. This event will feature performances by CMU and Pitt's South Asian dance and acapella teams, culminating with Arjun, a British-Sri Lankan singer who has performed around the world and recorded songs for various Bollywood movies. The first 300 attendees will receive a white t-shirt (we recommend bringing your own that you don't mind getting colored, just in case). Everyone will receive a pack of color. Enjoy music, food, and friends in this colorful celebration. Learn more here.

School of Design Lecture Series: Louis Elwood-Leach of LEGO

LEGOs are changing the world, one interactive design at a time! On Monday, April 11, from 5 to 6 p.m., head over to Breed Hall at Margaret Morrison Carnegie Hall for a lecture with Louis Elwood-Leach, a designer at LEGO. Originally from New Zealand and educated in industrial design, Louis freelanced in NYC, exploring interactive technologies such as AR and AI. His childhood ambition to work for LEGO brought him to the tiny town of Billund, Denmark, in 2019. As part of LEGO's newly formed Interactive Design Team, his work touches on physical and digital interactions, exploring early-stage concepts across the company's technology platforms and products. Learn more about Louis' talk.

Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet Of 1812

Calling all drama lovers! The spring musical premiers Thursday, April 14, at 8 p.m. and runs through April 23. This musical adaptation of part of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace focuses on the story of Natasha and Anatole and Pierre's search for the meaning of life. You can reserve your free tickets beginning at noon the business day before the performance. Tickets can be reserved online or over the phone at (412) 268-2407.

Spring Flower Show: Sunshine and Rainbows

Everything's coming up sunshine and rainbows! The Phipps Spring Flower Show runs until Saturday, April 17, and brings a welcome burst of color after a cold, grey Pittsburgh winter. This year's show features a glowing sun, cascading rainwater, and blooms showcasing the entire rainbow and promising even more vibrance than ever! Tickets must be purchased in advance.
