Happy Febrrrr-uary! We hope you’re all staying safe and warm with the icy weather. Check out some of the events happening this week. From the Intersect@CMU conference to a conference matchup in men’s and women’s basketball, this week is sure to be an exciting one on campus. Intersect@CMU

Tartans are changing the world every day, asking tough questions and putting their hearts into finding solutions. Join thought leaders, industry partners and experts at this year’s INTERSECT@CMU on Feb. 10 and 11 to discuss some of society’s most pressing problems and present potential solutions. This year’s conference will focus on sustainability, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and our actions to ensure that the next generation will live on a more sustainable planet. Speakers and panelists will discuss urgent issues facing our world as they relate to cities and infrastructure; peaceful, just, and inclusive societies; climate; and resilient and inclusive economies. Student Commencement Speaker Information Session

We know the semester just started, but graduation is coming up fast! If you are a graduating student interested in speaking at Commencement in May, this session is for you. Join the Student Commencement Speaker Information Session on Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 4 to 5 p.m. This session is open to both graduate and undergraduate students. It will consist of a brief presentation followed by time for participant questions. The information session will be virtual and is open to all graduating students.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball vs. Brandeis

Come cheer on our Tartan basketball teams! On Friday, Feb. 11, our men’s and women’s basketball teams take on the Brandeis Judges. Both games are at home in the Cohon University Center at the Wiegand Gym, with the men’s game beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the women’s game at 7:30 p.m. Both games will also be available to watch via livestream, with the men’s livestream livestream and the women’s livestream.

The Immaculate Deception

You might have heard of the Immaculate Reception, but have you heard of the Immaculate Deception? In December of 1972, something magical happened. Steelers fullback Franco Harris recovered a fumbled ball. He scored a game-winning touchdown with 30 seconds on the clock in one of the greatest plays of all time known as The Immaculate Reception. Eric Jones, a brand new show that draws inspiration from our city’s history of miraculous moments. Featuring perplexing prestidigitation created with Pittsburgh in mind, this premiere production is sure to amaze and inspire. Don’t take your eye off the ball… or the card… or the coin… You might catch The Immaculate Deception. This show runs now through Feb. 27, and discounted tickets are available using the code 2122CMU.

Sara Greenberger Rafferty Exhibit

This exhibition is picture perfect! The Carnegie Museum of Art’s Forum series presents Brooklyn-based artist Sara Greenberger Rafferty. This exhibit challenges the relationship between companies and consumers in a multimedia experience designed to engage the audience with the art. This exhibition is ongoing and will have periodic updates; more information is available. Take advantage of the student ID Arts Pass Program!

Marisol and Warhol Take New York

Pop art adds a little color to our winter landscape with Marisol and Warhol Take New York! This is one of the last weekends to catch this exhibit before it wraps up on Feb. 14 at the Andy Warhol Museum. The exhibition features Marisol’s work from her global collections, along with iconic works and rarely seen films and archival materials from The Warhol’s collection. You can learn more about the exhibit and purchase tickets in advance.
