Film junkies unite! Now through April 9, check out CMU's very own international film festival. This year's theme is "Faces Behind the Masks," and aims to challenge, inspire, and question the audience on what it means to wear masks in our everyday lives and what happens when we remove them. A new film is featured every day and showcases indie filmmakers worldwide, including some international Oscar submissions. Check out movies like Ripples Of Life, told from three different perspectives and focuses on the chaotic essence of indie filmmaking. Or watch Casablanca Beats (Haut Et Fort), which tells the story of Moroccan youth and their teacher Anas, a former rapper who urges his students to use rap as a form of honest expression and a way for them to tell their stories. Learn more about the films and ticket information.

Our Pittsburgh Picks

Humanities Festival

Picture of Dulcé Sloane and text Pittsburgh humanities festival

Pittsburgh is a city for the arts! This year's Humanities Festival blends unique live performances, and conversations with community leaders, artists, academics, and change-makers from Pittsburgh into one unique event. Or see Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Eve like never before or stand-up comedian Dulcé Sloan. Performance tickets and Core Conversations Pass are separate purchases, so be sure to look at the full schedule of events.

A Concert for Peace

As everyday people look for ways to support Ukraine, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will host a Concert for Peace. On Saturday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m., Music Director Manfred Honeck is joined by the Pittsburgh Symphony's Marta Krechkovsky, violin, Leif Ove Andsnes, piano, two Pittsburgh choirs, and Pittsburgh Resident Artists in support of humanitarian relief for the people of Ukraine. This performance will also be livestreamed on the Pittsburgh Symphony's digital platform, Front Row, and broadcast live by WQED-FM (89.3). This event is free and open to the public, though donations for humanitarian relief in Ukraine are appreciated. Any donations will benefit the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania and its efforts to provide humanitarian relief in Ukraine. Learn more about the program and how you can help.

Steel City Magnolias

Picture of the magnolias sculptures

Blink, and you'll miss it; we bet you've never noticed this hidden sculpture garden downtown. Head down to the corner of 7th and Penn Avenues in the city to see the 7th and Penn Parklet. This small park features a rotating showcase of world-class public art. The current exhibit on display at the 7th and Penn Parklet is Tony Tasset's Magnolias for Pittsburgh, a stunning example of the value of public art. Magnolias for Pittsburgh includes two bronze magnolia trees nestled amongst five live magnolias in a landscape design. Check out this little-known gem, whether you are taking a photo tour of Pittsburgh or headed downtown to explore.
