Whether you're settling in for your first semester or returning to the 'Burgh, these Friday Greetings emails are a resource for events happening on campus and in the city each week. Good luck this semester!

As a reminder, classes start Monday, Aug. 28! Be sure to double-check your course schedule in the Student Information System (SIO) and keep an eye out for any changes, updates or cancellations. Need a refresher on campus or here for the first time? Use the interactive campus map to find classroom buildings and the Schedule of Classes Legend webpage to look up building abbreviations. You've got this, Tartans!

SSN Signature Days

OIE will hold SSN Signature Days in the Cyert Hall Atrium. On the dates listed below, you may bring your SSN Signature Request (PDF) form and wait for an OIE Signature. Instructions on how to apply for your SSN will be provided to you with the signed SSN Signature Request form.

  • Wednesday, Aug. 30, anytime between 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 5, anytime between 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Students unable to attend an SSN Signature Day may drop off the SSN Signature Request form at the OIE front desk window (Monday-Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Submitted forms will be available for pick-up in five business days.

Books, Bots, and Blueprints: Exploring CMU's RAD Collections

Books, Bots, and Blueprints, oh my! On Friday, Aug. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m., stop by Hunt Library's the 2nd and 4th floors. Check out this hands-on experience, learn more about library services, and get to know the Archivists and Librarians who care for these rare and distinct Treasures. Items on display will include artifacts, rare books, art books, historic photographs, yearbooks, architectural plans, and manuscripts that document the history of CMU, students and campus life, robotics, science and technology, drama, and more. Learn more about this event.

Shadyside Arts Festival

On Aug. 27 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., check out the 25th annual Shadyside Art Festival on Walnut St. This event features artists and vendors from across the region and country displaying their unique creations. Want to continue the fun? Check out the great restaurants on Walnut St. while you're there! Learn more about the event and directions.

The Original Pittsburgh Taco Festival

Tacos in the 'Burgh! On Saturday, Aug. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., check out Pittsburgh's Taco Festival. This event features dozens of local taco restaurants, food trucks, live entertainment, and music. Tacos may be purchased at individual vendors and are not included in the $13 entry fee. We recommend purchasing tickets in advance!
