Scotty's Market Grand Opening Celebration

On Friday, Sept. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m., join Dining Services to celebrate the grand opening of Scotty's Market, CMU's first campus grocery store. Swing by to check out the grocery store and grill, operated by local partners, Salem's, and stay for the entertainment, free samples, and swag, including a free can opener for the first 100 guests. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will occur at 4:15 p.m. Learn more and check out Scotty's Market.

CMU Day at the Pittsburgh Pirates

Play ball! On Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1:35 p.m., cheer on the Pittsburgh Pirates with the CMU community! Join fellow Tartans as the university recognizes our talented students and staff during the first pitch, national anthem, and on-field salute. Tickets and more information are available. Promotional tickets have sold out, but general admission tickets for the game are still available. All students, staff, faculty, alumni, friends and families are welcome!

The fall farmers market is back, this time with more JOY! Stop by Legacy Plaza on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for games and giveaways, shop local vendors, enjoy fall treats, and more! Make sure to stop by the Community Health & Well-Being tables to learn all about the wellness resources on campus. Learn more about this event.

Introduction to Research Metrics

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m., join library staff for an informational workshop. This workshop provides guidance on finding research collaborators, evaluating publishing effectiveness, and benchmarking against peers. Gain awareness of and experience with the research metrics tools acquired by the University Libraries to assist you with these tasks. Please register in advance.

CMU OIE & CPDC Employment Authorization Overview

Are you a new international student in the U.S.? This presentation is for you! On Friday, Sept. 22, at 12 p.m., join OIE and CPDC staff to learn the basics of employment authorization. This presentation will cover a variety of topics, including what employment authorization is and when you need it. J-1 and F-1 students can learn what is needed to work on and off campus during their time at CMU. We will also cover the basics of OPT, STEM OPT Extension, and Cap-Gap Extension and learn to identify the difference between employment and volunteering. Register in advance for this session.

Pittsburgh Chinese Festival

On Saturday, Sept. 16, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., check out the Pittsburgh Chinese Cultural Festival at Mellon Park. This event is full of traditional performances and cultural exhibits and features Asian cuisine. This event is free and open to all; learn more about the festival.

Market Square Concert

On Thursday, Sept. 21, at 11:30 a.m., Pittsburgh Opera's Resident Artists will entertain Pittsburghers with a free open-air concert at Market Square during the Farmers Market. Sample all that the Market Square Farmers Market has to offer while enjoying world-class singing of opera favorites by Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artists! Learn more about the event.

Little Amal

Art has the power to move us all! From Sept. 20-21, check out the moving installation Little Amal. This 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl has traveled over 5,500 miles to 15 countries with her message of hope and solidarity for displaced people everywhere. As part of Amal's 6,000-mile journey across the United States, she will stop in various locations across Pittsburgh. This art installation is one of the largest free public festivals ever created. More than 35 towns and cities from Boston to San Diego and 1,000+ artists and arts organizations have created 100+ events to welcome her.
