Dzombak Honored as ASCE Life Member

dzombak.pngDave Dzombak, Hammerschlag University Professor Emeritus, has been recognized as an ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) Life Member, celebrating his lifelong dedication to ASCE and his significant contributions to civil engineering.

Dzombak's influence extends beyond academia, with groundbreaking initiatives in climate change adaptation and the establishment of a PhD fellowship program in U.S. Environmental Sustainability. His program on infrastructure adaptation for climate change at Carnegie Mellon University has set a benchmark for other engineering schools.

His contributions span a wide array of civil engineering applications, including aquatic chemistry, chemical behavior in water, soil, and sediment, as well as water and wastewater treatment. He has tackled pressing environmental issues, such as abandoned mine drainage remediation, interbasin water transfer, and sustainability in mining.

In 2008, Dzombak was elected to the National Academy of Engineering for his role in developing models used in evaluating chemical behavior in water quality engineering and environmental remediation, and among his many accolades are the Gordon Maskew Fair Award from AAEES (2019), Civil Engineer of the Year Award from ASCE Pittsburgh Section (2019), Distinguished Service Award from AEESP (2015), and the ASCE Simon W. Freese Environmental Engineering Award (2014). He is a Fellow of AEESP, ASCE, and the Water Environment Federation (WEF), and holds the title of ASCE Distinguished Member.

Dzombak's ASCE Life Membership is a testament to his remarkable contributions to civil and environmental engineering. His commitment to water quality, sustainability, and education has left an indelible mark on the field, inspiring future engineers to address pressing global challenges.
