2023 Freeman Fellowship Recognizes Marissa Webber for Her Exceptional PhD Work

We're proud to share that Marissa Webber, a current CEE PhD student, has been selected as a 2023 Freeman Fellowship recipient. This competitive fellowship recognizes Webber’s outstanding contributions and accomplishments in her PhD research.

Webber, who completed her undergraduate studies at Princeton University with a civil and environmental engineering degree, is focused on climate change adaptation for urban infrastructure. She strongly focuses on mitigating stormwater flooding in urban areas, especially in cities like Pittsburgh. Her work delves into implementing green infrastructure and nature-based solutions, demonstrating their effectiveness and equity in tackling urban flooding challenges.

“I'm honored to be selected as a 2023 Freeman Fellowship recipient,” says Webber. “I am grateful for ongoing support from my advisors, professors Costa Samaras and David Rounce, as well as support from the CMU CEE Department.”

The Freeman Fellowship, established by John R. Freeman, Past President and Honorary Member of ASCE, provides students with essential resources to further their research and educational pursuits.
