Internship Funding Opportunities

The Common Internship Funding Application

The Common Internship Funding Application is used to apply for funding from The Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC), Dietrich College and Tepper School of Business. Funds from these sources make it more possible for our undergraduate students to take advantage of less remunerative but worthwhile off-campus internship opportunities.

Application Requirements

To apply for internship funding, each applicant must provide the following documentation:

  1. A 250 to 500-word essay describing the benefits of their internship experience
  2. A completed Cost Worksheet in which they calculate their net costs incurred during the internship
  3. A copy of their up-to-date resume
  4. A copy of their internship offer letter from their employer
  5. A copy of their financial aid award package documentation (if they received financial aid)

The CMU Summer Internship Experience Fund is available to current undergraduate students who are participating in off-campus, low paying or unpaid internships located in the United States during the summer.

This scholarship money, made available through a generous gift from Mr. Peter C. Dozzi, is for students who will be staying in the Pittsburgh Region to complete a summer internship experience. This scholarship was envisioned an incentive to keep Carnegie Mellon talent in and around the Pittsburgh Region after graduation.

Dietrich College encourages its undergraduate students to find and undertake professionally relevant and meaningful internship opportunities. Students may apply at any time throughout the year. Completed applications will be reviewed biweekly and decisions made on a rolling basis from July 1 through June 30 until all funds for the current cycle have been distributed.

The Tepper Undergraduate Experiential Learning and Professional Development Fund supports individual students in career and professional development-related activities.  Funds are awarded to support attendance/participation in conferences and events, professional development-related goods (such as clothing for an interview, interview prep material, etc.), expenses incurred while participating in an unpaid or low-paying internship (less than $12/hr), and other requests upon review.  

Eligibility:

To apply for funding, the request must meet the following criteria:

- Student must be a primary business administration or economics (economics, economics and math, economics and politics, or economics and statistics) major

- Student must be in good academic standing (minimum QPA of 2.0)

  • Handshake
  • Meet with your advisor to see if they know of any faculty members with openings in their lab
  • Contact professors from your classes or professors you know who are doing research in the areas that you are interested in pursuing. Faculty members do not always post their openings on Handshake
  • Teaching assistants may also be able to refer you to faculty members who have openings
