Bio

"These past years have been a truly transformative period for me, and it is an exciting opportunity in a fifth year at CMU to be able to utilize these lessons I have learned towards my passion to learn and to better the CMU community!"

Olivia grew up in the Chicago suburbs and is pursuing a Bachelor of Humanities and Arts in Film and Electronic Media with a minor in Game Design. Through various academic, professional, and extra-curricular involvements on campus, Olivia has found that CMU has offered many wonderful opportunities to expand her horizons. In her involvement with Residential Education, WRCT, First Together, and Tartan Scholars, Olivia has discovered her passion for producing, supporting other first gen students, and building community. Olivia's fifth-year project is motivated by these passions and experiences, specifically in the professional development sphere. She plans to create a professional attire closet in which students can acquire clothing to keep for interviews, career fairs, and any other opportunities in their college careers and beyond. Olivia also hopes to work with Tartan Scholars to create career-centered programming that utilizes this closet in hopes to limit barriers of access for students in regards to professional development.

David Peebles

Music, Scholar Class of 2022-2023

Bio

In my time at Carnegie Mellon, I have been motivated not only by faculty but mostly by my colleagues. But what makes Carnegie Mellon’s students so excellent is that they show that there are limitless possibilities to what you can do, and you can always be pushing.”

David came to Carnegie Mellon from Asheville, NC. David is majoring in Music Performance and pursuing a minor in Hispanic Studies. As a student at Carnegie Mellon, he is leader of the David Peebles Septet and Peebles Street, where he performs, arranges, and composes his original music and arrangements ranging from Jazz, R&B, Pop, Funk, and everything in between. For David’s fifth year, he hopes to tighten the relationship between Carnegie Mellon and the greater Pittsburgh community through music. He is optimistic about utilizing his skills as a leader and educator to do so. His fifth year project's objective is to expand the school of music’s outreach initiatives to Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill. Not every child in Pittsburgh has the financial means to pay for music lessons, so David is planning on giving Graduate students and Undergraduates the opportunity to invest a small portion of their time every week to an underserved music student in the Carnegie Mellon community. Being surrounded by so many talented musicians, David was inspired to share the wealth of music and knowledge from our students to high school students within our community. With this initiative, David hopes to make our campus community more impactful to the greater Pittsburgh community.
