Pittsburgh, PA, March 12, 2025 — The Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy (CMRA) is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Papyrus Academy to deliver cutting-edge robotics education programs to K-12 students in the Tampa Bay area. This collaboration aims to empower young minds by providing access to high-quality robotics curricula and hands-on learning experiences.

"We are thrilled to partner with Papyrus Academy to expand access to robotics education in the Tampa Bay area. Robotics is a powerful tool for engaging students in STEM, and this partnership will ensure that more learners have the opportunity to build computational thinking and problem-solving skills."
Jesse Flot, Co-Director, Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy

Papyrus Academy was founded by Lydia Brugere, PhD, a data scientist specializing in machine learning for satellite and drone imagery, and Aaron Brugere, an education-focused entrepreneur with a background in corporate finance. Their combined expertise in STEM, education, and technology drives the Academy’s mission to make robotics accessible to students of all backgrounds. Papyrus Academy offers customized K-12 robotics programs, including after-school initiatives, homeschool co-ops, and camps, all designed to guide students from basic coding concepts to advanced robotics applications. Their curriculum features a variety of platforms such as LEGO SPIKE Prime, Arduino ShieldBot REV DUO, and CoDrone.

"We’re excited to join forces with Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy to bring world-class robotics education to Tampa Bay. Our goal is to inspire the next generation of innovators by tailoring these programs to our community’s needs, blending rigorous STEM learning with hands-on creativity."
Lydia Brugere, Co-Founder, Papyrus Academy

Papyrus Academy instructors are carefully selected through a rigorous process, including background checks, subject matter expertise assessments, and a 40-hour certification training for each course they teach. This ensures that educators possess both the technical and pedagogical knowledge necessary to deliver effective robotics instruction.

The Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy, an educational outreach of Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute, has been at the forefront of robotics education for over two decades. CMRA's mission is to leverage robotics to create opportunities in computer science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (CS-STEM) for all learners. Their research-based curricula and certification programs are designed to engage students in meaningful STEM learning.

Through this partnership, students in the Tampa Bay area will have the opportunity to engage with CMRA's comprehensive robotics curriculum, benefiting from hands-on training and the development of computational thinking skills. The programs are structured to be accessible to beginners while offering pathways to more advanced topics, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for all participants.
