Biography
Jason Bohland is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Science and Disorders and directs the Speech Neural Systems lab. His primary research interest is to understand the brain circuits that are used to plan and produce speech. His group uses an integrative, multidisciplinary approach that combines computational modeling, experimental methods including psychophysics and functional magnetic resonance imaging, and analysis of large datasets. The overall goal is to build an increasingly detailed and mechanistic understanding of how speech is represented in the brains of typically developing speakers and individuals with speech disorders.
Dr. Bohland earned his BS in Computer Engineering and MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and his PhD in Cognitive and Neural Systems from Boston University. He was previously faculty in the Departments of Health Sciences and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, and Associate Director of the Cognitive Neuroimaging Center at Boston University before joining Pitt in 2019.
