Status of CMU Study Abroad Programs for Summer 2021

Dear Student,

We hope this message finds you well and that you’ve had the opportunity to enjoy the onset of spring, wherever you may be.

In the context of the ongoing global pandemic, we are reaching out with an update regarding study abroad and the upcoming summer term. In light of new COVID-19 variants, worldwide vaccination challenges, and ever-changing travel restrictions, Carnegie Mellon has made the difficult decision to extend its suspension of participation in study abroad through summer 2021. You can learn more about this unfortunate update on our website.

OIE staff understand that this news will be disappointing to students who had hoped to study abroad this summer. We also recognize and share the disappointment that many CMU faculty and staff may be feeling with this disheartening news. OIE continues to believe strongly in the transformative power of cross-cultural experiences, and we look forward to a time when students can safely engage in these opportunities in the future.

Study Abroad Advisors in OIE are available for student consultations to answer questions and to help plan for future study abroad experiences. Please feel free to schedule an individual appointment online or email us at GoAbroad@andrew.cmu.edu.

We wish you all the best for the remainder of this semester and we look forward to helping you plan a future study abroad experience.

Kind Regards,

Linda Gentile, Director of the Office of International Education

Chris Menand, Associate Director of OIE for Study Abroad

Erin Swift, Assistant Director and Study Abroad Advisor
