Priya Narasimhan, a professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon and course instructor, said her students worked on a variety of prototypes ranging from a smart kitchen counter that tracks shopping lists and helps consumers cook difficult meals to a ski jacket that controls a mobile music player via touch.

The newly released report "Learning from Energy Supply Catastrophes" found that the U.S. lacks a clear and complete picture of the human, environmental and economic risks of producing and delivering oil, natural gas, coal, electricity and other forms of energy. The study also strongly recommends that the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), a branch of the Energy Department, compile and publish factual information on the consequences of accidents in each energy supply industry.

Seven new public artworks created by undergraduate and graduate students in Carnegie Mellon University's School of Art will be displayed on various billboards around the Pittsburgh region April 11-30. Designs span a variety of concerns and aesthetics, ranging from lush reinterpretations of neo-classical painting to commentary on immigration and sense of place in Pittsburgh's evolving cultural groups. The last offering of CMU's drama season, "The Alice Project" opens Thursday, April 14 and runs through Saturday, April 23 in the Philip Chosky Theater in the Purnell Center for the Arts.
