Becoming What's Next: MSSM - Class of 2021

By Leia Delabahan

On August 15, 2021, the Integrated Innovation Institute came together as a community to celebrate the achievements of our Master of Science in Software Management graduates. The celebrated cohort included graduates (and soon to be graduates!) from May, August, and December 2021.

Students and their families joined iii staff & faculty over Zoom for the Becoming What's Next diploma ceremony celebration. Opening with a welcome from iii Director Peter Boatwright, the event included a speech from MSSM Program Director, Gladys Mercier, who acknowledged the graduating students for their resilience during a primarily remote-student experience.

A traditional part of the MSSM diploma ceremony is the annual Return on Education Award, given to an MSSM alum in recognition of their professional leadership & commitment to inspiring students. This year, 2015 graduate Piyush Gupta was the award recipient.

Mike Chiang (MSSM '21) was nominated by faculty for the MSSM Student Leader Award in recognition of his exceptional academic accomplishments and leadership ability. As a Part-Time MSSM student, Mike was recognized for his involvement in Changemakers@SV and other campus initiatives - including his voluntary teaching assistant roles. Wei "Orpheus" Peng (MSSM '21) was nominated by his classmates as Student Speaker for the MSSM Class of 2021 and delivered words of encouragement for the graduating class.

As we see our class of 2021 MSSM graduates graduate and welcome them to the CMUiii alumni, we know each and every one of them will go on to be true "changemakers" and to make a positive impact in the world.
