Bio

During her time at INI, Deboshree Dutta (MS19) realized how critical it is for engineers to understand the business and policies behind making a successful product.

Dutta graduated from INI with a Master of Science in Information Networking (MSIN) in 2009. The INI’s interdisciplinary courses gave her the opportunity to explore all aspects of product development, and this background helped her transition from software engineer to product manager over the past decade.

“Product management is a very demanding job, as your success depends on everyone else's success,” she said. “That involves a lot of relationship building, in addition to technical expertise and team management.”

Dutta is currently a Group Product Manager at PayPal, where she leads a global team of experienced product managers and engineers to build customized experiences for PayPal's Customer Success organization.

As an active advocate for women in tech, she serves as a founding member and San Francisco Bay Area chapter lead for Women in Product, a platform that connects like-minded women from around the world.

“From discussing success stories, struggles and best practices, we have evolved into a community that supports one other to help us become better product leaders,” she explained.

In 2019, Dutta joined Forbes Councils, an organization of selected industry experts who share their insights on Forbes.com.

Dutta recently launched her own company, RoomPlays, an online platform that connects new home owners to independent interior designers and home decorators. By economically empowering designers across the world to offer affordable and cutting-edge services, RoomPlays seeks to democratize interior design through technology.

“I started out wanting to be a true engineer but wasn’t aware of how critical it is for an engineer to understand the business and policies that govern the market our products are built for,” Dutta said.
