Students in Modern Languages will achieve the following goals:
Build competence in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language by linking language learning with literary and cultural studies
Enhance knowledge and appreciation of the values, traditions, and cultural history of the peoples who speak the target language studied
Develop independent learning skills and enthusiasm for the field through research, study, and internships abroad
Gain and promote intercultural understanding in an increasingly interdependent world
Develop research, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills through cross-linguistic, cross-cultural, and comparative historical analysis
Students not pursuing a major or minor in our department may earn a Language and Culture Certificate in the aforementioned languages with the addition of Italian.
