Bio

Melinda joined CFA's advancement team in February 2021 and brings 20 years of experience in fundraising for the arts and higher education. Melinda is a two-time CMU alumna, earning degrees from CFA's interdisciplinary BXA program in art and psychology and a Master of Arts Management degree from Heinz College.

For the first half of her career, she focused on development roles in nonprofit arts organizations including Pittsburgh Public Theater and the National Building Museum and Foundation for the National Archives in Washington, DC. Melinda first joined CMU advancement in 2007 and focused on frontline fundraising and management roles across the university for ten years.

More recently, she formalized a major gifts program at the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh as AVP of leadership giving. As senior director of development at the Tepper School of Business, Johnson managed individual giving and corporate relations programs, fundraising and staff. She is fortunate to be raising two creative kids with her spouse, a fellow Tartan.

Hungerman Johnson's Role

Melinda advocates for the people, schools and programs of the College of Fine Arts by engaging individual donors directly in philanthropy. She works closely with leadership, faculty and staff to ensure their priorities are understood by our community and resources are raised to enhance those opportunities.
