Community Partners
Community organizations and non-profits play a critical role in addressing societal needs. Working alongside these organizations to achieve their mission can be both an informative and inspiring part of Carnegie Mellon students’ education journey.
The Office of Community Engagement and Leadership Development has the privilege of supporting students’ education and personal development as well as contributing to community organizations’ efforts through student community engagement initiatives. Our office has a number of specific opportunities to introduce students to your organization and for them to directly contribute to your mission.
Utilize Campus Spaces
Consider the Nexus of Community Engagement as a space to host a meeting, event or training that supports your work, or to connect with CMU students, staff or faculty. This community engagement space was intentionally designed to support our partners and their work, as they collaborate alongside the CMU community. The space is reservable and free of charge!
Promote Your Organization
During the academic year, a weekly e-newsletter is shared with subscribed students. Please use this opportunity to share upcoming volunteer opportunities, trainings, internships, educational programming and more. To have your opportunity included, email all relevant details and any accompanying images or documents at least one week in advance.
Host Volunteers
The Community Engagement Fair during the first week of classes in the fall semester, three annual large-scale Community Commitment events, and smaller one-time community engagement projects taking place throughout the academic year, typically on weekends, all provide opportunities for CMU students, faculty and staff to connect and engage with your organization. Email to express interest in any or all of these opportunities and we will share additional information on how to get involved.
Seek Project Support
CMU students are eager to contribute to and support your organization's work. Potential project partnerships range from short-term support via our Emerging Leaders program or semester- and/or year-long projects collaborating with a student organization. Schedule a meeting via email to discuss your project goals and timeline.
Expand Voter Registration & Democratic Engagement
Carnegie Mellon is committed to robustly supporting student voter registration, education and democratic engagement. If you are a community-based organization interested in supporting this work on campus, please schedule a meeting via email to discuss how to do so most effectively while appropriately following University policy and procedure.
Additional Ways to Connect
The Office of Community Engagement and Leadership Development wants to learn more about your organization's needs and strategize on how to most effectively connect CMU graduate and undergraduate students with your organization. Additional connection points also exist at the university. We are happy to meet and discuss your needs. Please schedule a meeting via email or call us at 412-268-8704.
