On- and Off-Campus Housing Search

It’s the time of year when our students begin making their housing plans for the next academic year (2020-2021). As family members, your top priorities are making sure your students are safe, happy and in an environment that inspires and supports them in all facets of their lives. Carnegie Mellon Housing Services makes that same commitment to your student through the residential life experience.

As national research consistently shows, living on campus significantly contributes to academic success, graduating on time and the positive development of the whole student. Because of this, we strongly encourage students to remain in campus housing throughout their college years. For more information on the Room Selection process for on-campus housing that begins Wednesday, February 19, please visit the Housing Services website.

If your student is considering moving off campus, we encourage them to utilize several campus services related to their search. Housing maintains an off-campus housing website where local Pittsburgh landlords can list apartments and rentals in the areas near campus. The university does not vet or endorse these properties, but compiles them for student convenience. In addition, students can take advantage of the student legal consultation program, which offers free 20-minute legal consultations to CMU students. Students can sign up for an appointment to discuss tenant rights and leases on the student legal consultation website or by email. Students also can consider attending the January workshop focused on tenant rights and leases.
