Welcome to CMU!
To the CMU Class of 2029+:
On behalf of the entire Carnegie Mellon University community: Welcome and congratulations!
In just a few short months, you will be settling into CMU’s world-class learning environment and vibrant campus life and on your way to becoming society’s newest changemakers and leaders. As you prepare for the start of your college career, the summer will be full of anticipation and planning!
We invite all first-year students and their families to attend our First-Year Student Welcome and Onboarding Webinar on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 7 p.m. ET. This virtual event will explain how you can prepare for your arrival at CMU this fall, the various tasks you will need to complete in advance, and the broad range of on-campus resources available once you arrive. During the session, you and your family will have an opportunity to ask questions.
We also invite all incoming international students and families to attend our First-Year International Student Webinar on Wednesday, June 11, at 8 a.m. ET. This virtual session will share important information about immigration requirements and travel planning.
Later this week, our First-Year Orientation and Family Engagement team will invite you to register for these webinars. Our goal is to have you exit each applicable session with the information needed to prepare for a successful transition to and start at Carnegie Mellon.
Beyond webinar offerings, we host a range of Tartan welcome programming for all incoming first-year students. These opportunities take the form of summer communications as well as our fantastic First-Year Orientation week experience — and you can mark your calendars now for Move-In and Family Welcome Weekend on Aug. 16-17!
Class of 2029+: You are turning Tartan at a pivotal time for society, and the world is eager for your perspectives and ideas. Carnegie Mellon’s commitment to excellence is a cornerstone of our great institution, and every member of your class embodies the very qualities that define a CMU student — passion, creativity, inclusion and innovation. Throughout your time at CMU, I look forward to learning about your aspirations for a bright new future and working with you to make them a reality.
Once again: Welcome to Carnegie Mellon. We hope you have a wonderful summer, and we cannot wait to meet you soon!
Sincerely,
Farnam Jahanian
