Civil Servant, U.S. Department of Treasury

Making Governmental Change

Felix Fazliddin (HNZ 2015) works on the frontlines of economics, national security and foreign policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

“Civil service is very fulfilling for me,” says Felix, speaking in his personal capacity. “There is that sense that you are a part of something bigger than yourself as you try to serve the American public to the best of your abilities and come up with creative ideas and solutions.”

Felix’s work helps the U.S. government address some of the biggest national security and foreign policy challenges of our time.

He entered civil service after a Washington, D.C.-area fellowship, but it was the skills he gained from Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy’s master of public management program that elevated his career to new heights.

With his CMU skills, Felix has been able to introduce innovations to technology and processes that have helped the United States quickly react to an international crisis.

This year, Felix is also celebrating 10 years of service in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

He is a proud officer of the 28th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade, which is often the first to respond to emergency relief missions in the state and elsewhere.

Out-of-the-Box Thinking

"I encourage my classmates to enter civil service. There’s so much we can contribute,” Felix says. “As a CMU graduate, you bring the latest and greatest analytical skills, data fluency and technological prowess. That is very much needed in the government, and you're valued for bringing that outside-the-box approach.”
