Bio

Logan T. Johnston (I 1923) was president of the Armco Steel Corporation from 1960 to 1965 and board chairman until 1971.

Well known in the steel industry, Mr. Johnston began a comprehensive expansion and modernization program for the Armco corporation. Under his direction the company initiated major pollution control techniques that were utilized by other steel concerns.

He was a founder of the International Iron and Steel Institute in 1966, served as its chairman in 1969‐70 and remained director until 1973. Mr. Johnston was the recipient of the steel industry's two highest honors—the Gary Memorial Medal of the American Iron and Steel Institute, and the International Award for outstanding achievement from the International Iron and Steel Institute.
