Carnegie Mellon Unveils Wall of Distinction

Expanded wall honors university benefactors and alumni

Carnegie Mellon University is recognizing its benefactors, as well as Alumni Award and Tartans on the Rise recipients, on its expanded Wall of Distinction, which was unveiled in October 2024 in the Cohon University Center’s Kirr Commons.

Located in a central, highly visible space on campus, the Wall of Distinction honors university benefactors who have given $10 million or more in support of CMU, making possible immeasurable advances in the university’s education and research mission. Benefactors are listed in chronological order according to when they achieved this significant philanthropic milestone. Future Carnegie Mellon supporters will be added as their giving reaches the $10 million threshold.

The Wall of Distinction also celebrates the service and achievements of the university alumni who are selected each year for Carnegie Mellon Alumni Awards and Tartans on the Rise recognition.

The wall was produced in partnership with Pittsburgh’s Kolano Design, whose president is Bill Kolano (CFA 1975) and creative director is Doug Donaldson (CFA 1986). The structure is more than 56 feet long and more than 9 feet tall, anchored by the university seal at its center. Its illuminated panels are made of acrylic with aluminum accents while individual donor plaques have gold metal inlays. Nearby, new lighted Carnegie Mellon wordmarks create photo opportunities for the campus community and visitors.
