Chartwells Higher Education Launches Performance Circle Initiative at CMU
Carnegie Mellon University Dining is expanding its commitment to student‑athlete wellness by partnering with Chartwells Higher Education to launch their Performance Circle initiative.
Performance Circle is rooted in a simple idea: when athletes understand how to fuel their bodies, they unlock higher levels of strength, endurance, focus, and recovery. The program brings performance nutrition directly into the campus dining experience through interactive pop‑ups, performance-focused menu sets, and clearly labeled fueling options.
Performance Circle Tabling
Each interactive performance table highlights a key pillar of performance nutrition, giving athletes quick, actionable guidance that they can use immediately.
Themes include:
- January 29, 2026: Winter Hydration / Wean Commons (first floor of CUC), 12:00-1:30pm
- February 26, 2026: Vitamin D for Performance / Highmark Center Kitchenette,12:00-1:30pm

Performance Circle–Themed Menus in Schatz Dining Room
To reinforce the program’s core principles, Chartwells will introduce Performance Circle–themed menus every Saturday and Sunday during the dinner meal period in Schatz Dining Room this Spring semester. These meals showcase balanced, performance‑driven dishes that help athletes put their nutrition knowledge into practice.
Labeled Grab‑and‑Go Options Across Campus
Chartwells is also making it easier for athletes to make smart choices on the move. Pre‑packaged and “Grab n’ Go” items will be labeled in Entropy+ Convenience Store, Tepper Eatery, and in Scott Hall at Wild Blue Sushi. These labels help athletes quickly identify fueling options that align with their performance goals.
“By launching the Nutrition Performance Circle, we are directly fueling the future success of Tartan athletics and campus health”, says Alan Degennaro, Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Performance
The Performance Circle Initiative reflects Carnegie Mellon University Dining’s commitment to elevating the student‑athlete experience through thoughtful, evidence‑based nutrition.
