By Emily Nagin

Lynn Sotillo has been appointed associate dean for finance and chief business officer for Carnegie Mellon University’s Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In the newly-created role, Sotillo will serve as a member of the Dietrich College Dean’s Cabinet, supporting the college’s mission and strategic goals by managing and reviewing Dietrich’s budget and providing financial context and forecasts to assist in effective decision-making.

“I am looking forward to offering my support to the remarkable Dietrich College community,” Sotillo said. “This role presents a valuable opportunity to collaborate across the college, enhancing resource allocation and financial strategy in alignment with its academic mission. I am excited to build relationships, foster innovation and contribute to its ongoing success.”

“Lynn is the real deal,” said Richard Scheines, Bess Family Dean of Dietrich College. “She has extensive experience on both the technical and organizational side, and she is going to transform our financial operations and our ability to act strategically in response to data. She is also — as I’m already finding out — a joy to work with personally.”

Sotillo brings extensive experience managing multi-million dollar budgets to her new role at Carnegie Mellon. Prior to joining the Dietrich College team, Sotillo served as the assistant vice president of financial planning and analysis at the University of West Georgia, where she was responsible for university-wide financial planning and budget management. Sotillo has also worked in multiple units at Kennesaw State University: As director of budget and business operations, she prepared and analyzed budgets and oversaw staff in charge of developing divisional budgets. Among other roles, Sotillo also served as an academic operations director, post-award director, and senior business operations manager and purchasing agent for Kennesaw State.

Sotillo earned her bachelor and master of business administration from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA.
