The US Militia Movement and the Dangers Militias Pose in 2024

Dr. Amy Cooter
Director of Research, Academic Development, and Innovation at Middlebury's Center on Terrorism, Extremism and Counterterrorism

Lecture: April 18, 2024 – 5:00 pm, Steinberg Auditorium (BH A53)

This talk will explore the state of the modern militia movement in the US, including the militias’ motivations, ideology, and possible actions as the 2024 Presidential Election approaches. Understanding how militias participate in systems of white supremacy that inhibit full civic participation yields insights into likely flashpoints of violence in the coming months.
