"The third floor of Hunt is the best place to study. It's really quiet and away from my comics, games, roommates, and other distractions."

  Hunt Library

Hunt Library is one of five libraries within Carnegie Mellon's library system. Here students find quiet study space, access to an online book and periodicals database, reference information and a variety of borrowing options.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Hunt donated $2.8 million for the Hunt Library in 1960. Because the Hunts were prominent in the aluminum industry, they specified that the architect use aluminum wherever possible in the plans. This gives Hunt Library a unique appearance inside and out.

The Fine and Rare Books collection on the fourth floor contains about 10,000 rare and unique texts, including original editions of Nicholas Copernicus' 1543 book in which he presents his heliocentric theory—the idea that the Earth and other planets revolve around the sun.

The penthouse of the library is home to the world's finest private collection of historical botanical books, the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation.

Other university libraries include the Hunt Botanical Libary, the Engineering & Science Library, the Mellon Institute Library and the Software Engineering Institute Library.
