Introducing the MSCF Quantitative Assessment
A New Way to Showcase Your Quantitative Skills
Great news! As an alternative to the GRE/GMAT, we are excited to introduce the MSCF Quantitative Assessment, a new component of the admissions process designed to give applicants an additional opportunity to demonstrate the mathematical, statistical, and computational skills that support success in the Master of Science in Computational Finance (MSCF) program. Candidates may choose to take this assessment as a part of their application submission, or they can elect to submit official GRE/GMAT scores. Candidates must submit one of these two, though they’re welcome to do both if they are interested.
Developed specifically for MSCF applicants, the assessment is intended to complement, not replace, the other components of your application. It provides a standardized way for candidates from diverse academic and professional backgrounds to showcase their quantitative readiness and strengthen their application. Candidates will take the assessment once, in the round they apply to the MSCF program.
About the Assessment
The MSCF Quantitative Assessment was developed by the MSCF admissions team in collaboration with program leadership to evaluate foundational quantitative skills that are important for success in our rigorous curriculum.
The assessment focuses on four core areas:
- Calculus
- Linear Algebra
- Probability & Statistics
- Computer Science
The exam will be offered in two time slots per application round, with specific dates and times to be announced later in the fall. The exam is free to take and can be completed anywhere, no testing center required!
What to Expect
- The assessment is 20 multiple-choice questions, one hour in length and will be completed online.
- Questions will focus on foundational quantitative concepts.
- No specialized finance background is required.
- Additional details regarding scheduling, logistics, and any preparation resources will be provided during the application process.
The Quantitative Assessment is one component of a holistic admissions review and will be considered alongside academic performance, professional experience, recommendations, essays, and other application materials.
The MSCF Admissions Committee looks forward to learning more about your experiences, goals, and quantitative strengths as part of the admissions process.
