Bio

Matt is a Partner in Lowenstein Sandler's Tech Group at the firm's Palo Alto office. He enjoys the excitement of working with new technologies and the entrepreneurs that develop and bring those technologies to market. Matt focuses his practice on the representation of emerging technology companies, venture capital and private equity funds, and institutional investors. He represents clients in many industries, including software, educational technology, digital media, social media, artificial intelligence systems, and life sciences. When working with emerging growth companies, Matt often serves the role of general counsel. In this role, he advises on formation and introduces companies to both angel and venture capital investors, assisting with negotiations and, when it all works to plan, an IPO or sale transaction.

Matt has practiced corporate law for more than two decades and has worked on hundreds of financings, IPOs, and M&A transactions on both the west and east coasts. Based in Silicon Valley, he enjoys the breadth and depth of the entrepreneurial and financing world. He also takes advantage of his New York City roots through his work with the firm’s leadership position there, maintaining an active practice counseling companies in the northeast, particularly those seeking access to venture capital on the West Coast.

Matt is proud to be actively involved in a number of organizations and educational institutions. Notably, he represents the firm by serving on the Advisory Board for Astia, an international non-profit organization supporting and promoting women as entrepreneurs and leaders of high-growth businesses. He also serves as a mentor and guest speaker at the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, a center of the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. For many years, he has sponsored and participated as a judge in Haas's annual business plan competition. Matt is also a Sky Advisor to SkyDeck, the university's incubator and accelerator program for startups.

Matt's practice is also international, notably various companies and agencies in New Zealand. He works closely with New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, a governmental economic development agency. He also collaborates with Auckland UniServices Limited, a company owned by the University of Auckland and the largest research and development company of its kind in Australasia. Finally, Matt also works with the leading New Zealand venture capital funds to assist local emerging growth companies to finance with their U.S. financing activities and expansion.

Prior to joining Lowenstein Sandler, Matt was a partner in the Palo Alto office of Mintz Levin. He began his career in New York City, handling securities offerings and merger and acquisition transactions.
