CMU spin-out Aquion Energy receives additional venture funding

Aquion Energy (ESTP Professor Whitacre's CMU spin-out company) has now raised $50M in private investment in addition to a $5M DOE award. Their low cost and environmentally friendly Sodium-ion batteries are predicted to be a game-changer for grid scale (and off-grid) storage of renewable energy. Aquion is slated to receive significant Pennsylvania state investments as they expand over the next three years from 80 people in Lawrenceville; adding more than 300 jobs as they move into a 250,0000 square foot manufacturing facility in Westmoreland County.
