Sweta Agarwal (M.S. '13)

Sweta Agarwal thought she wanted a career in energy consulting. Her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering established her interest in energy and after graduation she wanted to broaden her expertise through EST&P.

But Sweta’s plan took a bit of a different shape than she intended. Today, she’s a lead data engineer at Sycerco; building dashboards, analyzing benchmark assessment system data, and integrating it with fault detection and diagnostic tools. Her company specializes in HVAC controls and optimization to enhance comfort, simplify operations, and reduce cost. She’s motivated by the impact she makes improving the physical environments within buildings that serve thousands of occupants.

Sweta can draw direct connections from her current role back to her EST&P coursework -  specifically Sustainable Building and Data Acquisition. The structure of the program challenged Sweta to balance her job and internship searches with many other graduate school commitments. She was grateful that the Career and Professional Development was there to provide guidance and resources that heled her land the perfect position, providing mock interviews, and helping her refine her resume.

With her Engineering & Public Policy concentration, Sweta expanded her technical skills with research tools like MATLAB, Excel, and other data analytics software that enabled the perspective she needed to apply her expertise at a company like Sycerco.
