2026 Alumni Service Award
As a member of Carnegie Mellon’s basketball team, Greg H. Gonzalez found more than athletic success; he became part of a lifelong community that has shaped his approach to leadership, business and community building. Because of the bonds he formed across disciplines at CMU, the teammates he competed with and the peers he learned from, he is devoted to ensuring that future generations enjoy those same lifelong relationships.
Greg was a member of the men's basketball program that captured CMU’s first University Athletic Association championship in 2006 and its only Eastern College Athletic Conference championship in 2008. Since 2016, he has led planning for the CMU Men’s Basketball Alumni Weekend, helping it evolve from an informal reunion into a multigenerational tradition that includes nearly 70 years of players and is focused on growing the community that was so pivotal for him. Under Greg’s leadership, the event has expanded into a full weekend of activities with about 100 attendees each year and a special focus on strengthening relationships between past and current student athletes.
Greg has also played a critical role in rebuilding relationships with older alumni through personal outreach and engagement. He has fostered mentorship between generations of players, supported fundraising initiatives and helped establish engaging traditions. Greg gives charitably in honor and memory of teammates and their spouses, supporting organizations including Snug Harbor Cultural Center, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Dr. Katy Altonji Memorial Fund at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and the Carnegie Mellon Men's Basketball Endowment Fund.
Greg earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from CMU. His career path reflects the curiosity and passion for which CMU graduates are known. He played professional basketball in Germany and Puerto Rico before beginning a career in construction with a focus on public and private infrastructure. After becoming fascinated with how such projects are conceived, financed and capitalized, he founded Anaqua Investments Group, a private investment firm focused on commercial real estate and infrastructure, in 2021. Through Anaqua, he sources, structures and manages private investments in commercial real estate and adjacent infrastructure alongside a select group of high-net-worth investors, family offices and operating partners.
Beyond Carnegie Mellon, Greg participates in mentorship and community service opportunities in Austin, Texas, and Chicago, Illinois. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling and exploring art, architecture, museums, live comedy and local music.
Many of the most important lessons of my life were learned on the court and in the classroom at Carnegie Mellon. What continues to inspire me every day are the people I met there and the lasting impact they have had on my life.
