Featured Faculty: John Soluri

What makes you excited to teach this course?

I am very excited about teaching this new course on environmental justice that will give me an opportunity to explore with students a question that has driven my teaching and research for a long time: how to create societies that foster both wellbeing for people and biodiversity/sustainable energy use? This course will not necessarily give students a simple answer to that question, but it should help students to appreciate why it is the most important question facing people in the contemporary world.

What do you love most about teaching?

What I most love about teaching is the energy and wonder of engaged students.

What piece of advice would you give to students?

One piece of general advice for students: Never let concerns about having a perfect GPA interfere with your learning! Years from now, no one will care about your GPA, but people will care about your ideas and awareness of how the world works.
